Located in the beautiful Umbrian hills near Assisi, Italy, the Ananda Center offers many programs based on the principles of Kriya Yoga and Self-realization, which were brought to the Western world by Paramhansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi. His direct disciple Swami Kriyananda, the founder of Ananda communities in the United States, Europe and India, has continued to develop and spread these universal and practical teachings around the world.
  • The spiritual hatha yoga based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda
  • "The secret of meditation is… relinquishing outward attachments and affirming divine freedom within." – The Secrets of Meditation, by Swami Kriyananda
  • Kriya Yoga is an advanced technique for spiritual evolution that comes down from higher ages of spiritual enlightenment.

  • Ananda comes to you! A beautiful website full of inspirations, online meditation and satsang..
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies: the most traditional and delicious American recipe. Trust Mahiya!

Original American Cookies - Makes 10-12 giant cookies

    In a bowl mix:
    • 350 g of whole wheat flour
    • 4 teaspoons of dry powder yeast
    • ½ teaspoon of salt

    In a bigger bowl mix:

    • 200 g of raw cane sugar
    • 200 ml of sunflower oil
    • skin from 2 organic oranges
    • 100 ml of water

    -   Add the dry ingredients to sugar, oil, and so forth, and mix well to create the dough for the cookies.
    -   Add 200 g of dark chocolate chips (or pieces of chocolate) to the dough and mix well.
    -   Roll some balls of the size of a small tangerine, and place them at a distance of at least 4 cm from each other on a baking tray covered with baking paper (they will expand!). Flatten them with your hand.
    -   Put in the oven at 180 °C for about 15 minutes, until the cookies are a beautiful light golden brown (temperature and cooking time vary based on the oven). The cookies should be soft, but if you prefer them crunchy, you can cook them a little bit longer.
    -  Let them cool down before eating them.

Carbohydrates and sugar are both acidic foods, and should be used sparely, only on special occasions!

  • Yogananda was the first great master of yoga to make his home in the West, coming to the U.S. from India in 1920 and living here until his passing. He taught the timeless essence of spirituality, emphasizing the need for a direct inner experience of God, which he called Self-realization...
